They all played U.S. Military Service Sports in 1950s America.
All-Pros, All-Americans, Heisman Trophy winners, college All-Stars, Hall of Famers, and just regular athletes bonded together to form some of the most devastatingly talented teams in the country. The best service football squads could and did compete favorably against professional teams, such as the Los Angeles Rams and the San Francisco 49ers.
Service football powerhouses such as the Fort Ord Warriors, Fort Sill Cannoneers, Fort Eustis Wheels, Fort Dix Burros, Fort Belvoir Engineers, Bolling AFB Generals, and the Fort Benning Doughboys were often stacked with major-college and professional talent. Strong service athletes also performed at a high level in basketball, track and field, baseball, and boxing.
