Clara loves judo, and she knows a lot about it. So when new students join Rocky Mountain Judo Club, she is ready to help. Maybe a little TOO ready.
Clara wants the beginners to learn everything the right way, but her helpful advice starts to sound more like bossing. With guidance from Sensei Eugene, Clara begins to understand that courtesy is about more than saying please and thank you. It means being patient, showing respect, listening to others, and helping people where they are.
As Clara practices with her kohai and learns about Jita Kyoei, or mutual welfare and benefit, she discovers something important about leadership: being a good leader doesn't mean taking over. Sometimes the best way to help someone grow is to step back and let them try.
