LION OF THE NORTH Jan Sobieski has been elected as the King of Poland and the Grand Duke of Lithuania. But he doesn't have the time to be crowned.
The enemies of the Commonwealth are too much of a threat to the peace and stability of the country. The Crimean Tartars are raiding the southern regions of the Commonwealth; the Ottomans have seized the vital fortress of Kamieniec Podolski in the south and threaten to invade. There is conflict in Ukraina between the Left and Right Bank Cossacks. Both sectors seek to dominate the other to achieve a united Ukraina. The Muscowites support the Left Bank while the Ottomans support the Right Bank.

Jan places a priority on resolving those conflicts before he accepts the luxury of having a crown placed on his head.
After dealing with the Tartars and the Ottomans over a period of two years, Jan is finally crowned and turns his attention to domestic matters.
However, the Ottomans resume their hostilities. Jan is again forced to engage them in battle. After several successful campaigns, Jan signs a treaty with the Ottomans. That provides him with the opportunity to attempt to reclaim Ducal Prussia from the Brandenburgians. His desire is to place his eldest son, Jakub, on the Ducal throne to ensure the Sobieski dynasty continues after his death and eases the path for Jakub's election to the throne of Poland.
Imre Thokoly attempts to regain Royal Hungary from the Austrians. While King Jan is sympathetic to the Hungarian cause, he can't militarily assist because of his treaty with Austrian Emperor Leopold I. Zygmunt Klementz and his hussar banners are sent as 'mercenaries' to assist the Hungarians. After some significant successes, the French King abandons his support for the rebels and Zygmunt is instructed to return to Poland.
Sultan Mehmed IV releases Yurii Chmielnicki from his monastery cell and appoints him as Hetman of the Ukraina Right Bank. Yurii returns to his homeland with the belief that God has ordained him to reunite the Ukraina and expel the Ottomans from his country.
Suffering from the delusion that God speaks to him, Yurii punishes his countrymen for their misdemeanors with extreme cruelty as instructed by the Voice. Those actions lead to his dismissal from office; he spends the rest of his days in a monastery.
Kara Mustafa Pasha becomes Grand Vizier of the Ottoman Empire and convinces Sultan Mehmed IV to assemble the largest army the Empire has ever created. He plans to conquer the Holy Roman Empire, a feat the great Sultan, Suleiman the Magnificent, attempted and failed.
King Jan Sobieski realises the potential danger to the Commonwealth if the Ottomans succeed. He assembles an army and goes to the aid of the Austrians when the Ottomans arrive at the gates of Wien (Vienna).
Can the King, called the Lion of the North by the Ottomans, reach Wien in time to rescue it? Will he be able to defeat the greatest army the Ottomans have ever assembled?
