Book 2 follows Pepper as he adjusts to life with the Bumblebuttons after being adopted from the pet store. At first, everything feels new and a little scary - sleeping alone, learning stairs, walking on a leash, and staying home during the day while the family goes to work and school. Pepper slowly discovers that even though the house can feel quiet and lonely, the Bumblebuttons always come home to him.
Along the way, Pepper learns tricks for treats, destroys squeaky toys, steals toilet paper from Daddy Bumblebutton's throne, and accidentally tries to shred money. He enjoys belly rubs from Ollie, walks with Wally and Waffles, and snuggles with Mama Bumblebutton while making his silly duh face for snacks.
Even though Pepper sometimes misses the busy sounds and other dogs from the pet store, he realizes he finally has something special - a family that loves him, keeps him safe, and always comes back home.
