Emanuel Swedenborg was a polymath of the 18th century-fluent in seven languages, versed in mathematics, anatomy, astronomy, metallurgy, engineering, and philosophy. As a royal official and advisor to kings, he lived by reason and inquiry.
Then, his life changed.
He encountered what he described as the higher order of heaven-not through dreams or faith alone, but as a living, conscious experience. He recorded what he saw with the precision of a scientist and the devotion of a seeker: the structures of heaven and hell, the spiritual meanings embedded in every word of Scripture, and the destiny of the soul after death.
He did not start a church.
He did not claim prophecy.
He simply wrote, calling himself a humble scribe of divine order.
