Throughout the book, Julian explores Giddings' passionate commitment to the abolitionist movement, including his involvement in the Underground Railroad and his outspoken opposition to the institution of slavery. The book also delves into Giddings' role in the early years of the Republican Party and his efforts to secure equal rights for African Americans. In addition to his political career, Julian also examines Giddings' personal life, including his marriage and family, his friendships with fellow abolitionists, and his religious beliefs.
