The Life of Honorable Phineas T. Barnum is a biography of the famous American showman and businessman, Phineas Taylor Barnum. Written by Joel Benton, the book covers Barnum's life from his humble beginnings in Connecticut to his rise as a successful entrepreneur in New York City. Barnum is best known for his circus, which he founded in 1871 and which became the Greatest Show on Earth. However, the book delves deeper into Barnum's life, exploring his early years as a store owner and lottery operator, his involvement in politics, and his various business ventures. The biography also covers Barnum's personal life, including his marriages and family relationships. Benton portrays Barnum as a complex and multifaceted individual, highlighting both his successes and his failures. Overall, The Life of Honorable Phineas T. Barnum provides a comprehensive and engaging look at one of America's most iconic figures.About this time Barnum, with a Mr. Samuel Sherwood, of Bridgeport, started for Pittsburg, where they proposed to open a lottery office. On reaching New York, however, and talking over the scheme with friends, the venture was abandoned and the two men took, instead, a pleasure trip to Philadelphia. They stayed a week, at the end of which time they returned to New York, with exactly twenty-seven cents between them. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
