The Life of Evelyn Underhill is a biographical account of the British writer, mystic, and theologian Evelyn Underhill. Written by Margaret Cropper, the book delves into the life and work of Underhill, exploring her spiritual journey, her writings, and her impact on the world of spirituality and religion. The book begins with a detailed account of Underhill's early life, including her upbringing in a middle-class family in London and her education at King's College for Women. It then moves on to examine her spiritual development, tracing her journey from a conventional Anglican to a mystic who embraced a more universal spirituality.Throughout the book, Cropper provides a thorough analysis of Underhill's major works, including Mysticism, The Mystic Way, and Practical Mysticism. She also explores Underhill's influence on other writers and thinkers of her time, including T.S. Eliot, C.S. Lewis, and Thomas Merton. The Life of Evelyn Underhill is a comprehensive and engaging biography that offers a fascinating glimpse into the life of one of the most influential spiritual writers of the 20th century.
