Butler's 1923 newspaper article from the Newark Sunday Call, recounting the remarkable life of Dave, the dog who became known throughout the country as Annie Oakley's loyal companion and celebrated Red Cross dog. This edition restores Butler's original newspaper article in full and includes an editorial comparison with the privately printed booklet version, highlighting the differences between the two texts. To provide broader historical context, the volume also incorporates additional period newspaper accounts related to Dave's death and to the time Annie Oakley, Frank Butler, and their dogs spent in Florida. These materials illuminate the world in which Dave lived and the deep bond he shared with Annie Oakley.
