Pittsburgh's Inclines...are Time Machines? Army Veteran Dean Watson returns home from war and struggles to adjust to life as a civilian. Taking a job at a small college, his co-worker, Nelsa- a strange but beautiful girl- helps to teach him how to reintegrate into society and truly live again. As the two begin a romance, Dean is heartbroken to discover that Nelsa is going away to rehab for substance abuse. She is his only support system, but she has to go. Months go by with no contact. It's as if she's disappeared. Augmented by PTSD, Dean spirals into a deep depression. On a dark and stormy night, as Dean is poised to take his own life, his self-destruction is interrupted by a well-dressed, alien-looking visitor with a dire message. Nelsa is in trouble! Life by Apothecary follows our hero to eleven separate points in time, exploring the history of the City of Pittsburgh via a very special time machine- The Duquesne Incline, one of the city's funiculars, on a quest to save his true love and find redemption. On the way, he'll meet the famous industrialist millionaire Andrew Carnegie, battle a ferocious Pinkerton Army, fly on a zeppelin airship, barter with the devil, free a dragon from a mountain prison, and much more. Will Dean realize his destiny and save the only person in his life worth fighting for?
