On February 15, 1898, Acer Lyander and a few shipmates onboard the armored cruiser, The Maine, were sitting on the fantail talking when at 9:40 p.m., the ship exploded and sank in the Havana, Cuba, harbor. Out of 374 crewmen, 268 died that night.
The next day, Acer received a letter from Attorney Ron Cassidy that both of his parents had died. He is given a compassionate discharge and returns home to Whistlestop, Maine.
Once the family aff airs have been addressed, he leaves Whistlestop for a life at the Royal Meadows in Kings Township. He meets Katalia in Kingstown, Quebec, and they are soon married. Together they create an exciting life at Royal Meadows, with a dog named Nespas and a barking bobcat, Bob.
Katalia, your life is not a printed roadmap. You will write it yourself with the choices you make in your life.
