The Life and Work of Joseph Firbank, Railway Contractor is a biographical account written by Frederick McDermott about the life of Joseph Firbank, a prominent railway contractor in the 19th century. The book details Firbank's early life, his rise to prominence in the railway industry, and his significant contributions to the construction of various railway lines throughout England. It also explores the challenges and obstacles that Firbank faced during his career, including financial difficulties and legal disputes with other contractors. McDermott's account is based on extensive research, including interviews with Firbank's family members and colleagues, as well as primary source documents such as letters and contracts. The book provides a fascinating insight into the life of a pioneering figure in the railway industry and sheds light on the important role that contractors played in the development of the railway network in England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
