Garth Eldrich was different. He could not remember for sure the very first time he realized it.
It's like when you see a movement or a shadow out of the corner of your eye but when you look there is nothing there.

Like lots of things in his life, Garth had not known what was going on and just assumed that it was a trick of the light or just a speck of dust in his eye that, just for a second, distorted the light or the shape of something into something else.

There was however one thing that disturbed him, and that was that sometimes his dreams would continue a story for nights on end, vivid and visceral, but each day when he woke in the morning only fragments and feelings like a sort of hangover were left. It made his head hurt and he would feel disorientated, and it made what he thought of, as the real world that he lived in, unfinished, missing something.

The worst aspect of it all and the one thing that convinced him that his dreams had intruded on real life was that his dreams had started to leave marks, and lesions on his skin.

It would be more than a few years before it all made sense, and that sense, that revelation was to take him from the uncertainty of the mundane and curious to both the heights of the extraordinary and mystical to the darkest feted corners of delirium.
