Leonarda is a novel written by Bjornstjerne M. Bjornson. The story is set in Norway in the mid-19th century and follows the life of Leonarda, a young woman who is forced to marry a man she does not love. Despite her unhappy marriage, Leonarda remains strong and independent, refusing to be controlled by her husband. She eventually falls in love with another man, but her husband refuses to grant her a divorce. Leonarda is faced with a difficult decision: stay in her unhappy marriage or risk everything to be with the man she loves. The novel explores themes of love, marriage, and societal expectations, and offers a glimpse into the lives of women in 19th century Norway. Bjornson's writing is known for its realism and social commentary, and Leonarda is no exception.Hagbart. If I did not believe that it was the impulse of truth itself that guided me to you, I should not be standing here. I have had a long struggle. I have had to give up one prejudice after another, to enable my soul to find itself fully and go forward confidently. It has brought me to you--and now we will go forward together. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
