This is a biography of Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, one of the most important figures in the history of philosophy. He was a prominent German polymath and philosopher in the history of mathematics and the history of philosophy. Leibniz developed the ideas of differential and integral calculus, independently of Isaac Newton. His notation has been in general use ever since it was published.
Leibniz also made major contributions to physics and technology, and he anticipated notions that surfaced much later in probability theory, topology, psychology, linguistics, and information science. His philosophical positions are often identified as belonging to the rationalist school. Leibniz also contributed to the field of library science.
