The Lawyer's Story: Or The Orphan's Wrongs is a novel written by James A. Maitland and first published in 1853. The story follows the life of a young orphan named John who is taken in by a wealthy lawyer named Mr. Wilmot. John is raised by Mr. Wilmot and his wife as their own son and is given the best education and opportunities. However, when Mr. Wilmot dies, John discovers that he has been left with nothing and is forced to leave the Wilmot household. He soon realizes that he has been cheated out of his inheritance by Mr. Wilmot's greedy relatives and decides to seek justice.John turns to the law and becomes a lawyer himself, determined to right the wrongs done to him and others like him. Along the way, he meets a young woman named Mary who becomes his ally and eventually his wife. The Lawyer's Story is a tale of perseverance and justice, as John fights against the corrupt and powerful to bring about a better world for himself and those around him. It is a classic example of Victorian literature and explores themes of class, inheritance, and the power of the legal system. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
