Robert argues, I believe convincingly, that Paul's famous appeal in Romans 12:1 to offer our lives as living sacrifices, only makes sense if by mercies Paul means everything God has done for us in Jesus Christ as explained in Romans 1-11. The practical expressions of faith in action in Romans 12-16 are not an add-on to the gospel articulated in Romans 1-11. Rather, they are the overflow of a renewed mind and heart that sees the mercies of God as the umbrella over every aspect of Christian living, without exception.
