This is a Latin edition of the chronicle by George Syncellus, a Byzantine historian who lived in the late 8th and early 9th centuries. The work, titled Georgiou Monachou Kai Synkellou Gegonotos Tou En Hagiois Patros Hemon Tarasiou Patriarkou Konstantinoupoleos Chronographia, Apo Adam Mechri Diokleitianou..., presents a universal chronicle from the creation of Adam to the reign of the Roman Emperor Diocletian. It is a valuable source for understanding Byzantine conceptions of world history and chronology, incorporating both biblical and classical sources.
Syncellus's chronicle is notable for its attempt to synchronize various historical traditions, including those of the Egyptians, Chaldeans, Greeks, and Hebrews. Although incomplete at the time of Syncellus's death, the chronicle was continued by his friend Theophanes the Confessor. This edition offers scholars access to an important text for the study of Byzantine historiography and its engagement with the ancient world.
