This volume presents six comedies by Hrotsvitha of Gandersheim, edited and printed according to the Emmeran manuscript. Included is a preface on poetry and Hrotsvitha's letter to certain wise patrons of the book from the Huns. This edition also adds previously unpublished verses from the same codex. Hrotsvitha, a 10th-century Benedictine canoness, is celebrated for her Latin works, which offer a unique perspective on medieval society and Christian virtue. Her plays, modeled on Terence but adapted for a Christian audience, provide valuable insight into the intellectual and artistic life of her time. This collection, 'Comoedias Sex, ' showcases Hrotsvitha's talent and the enduring appeal of her dramatic works.
