'There exists those disposed to destroy one another, but a friend that is true sticks closer than a brother.'The Last Test and Wilderment is a pre/sequel to the book, Throne to the Dogs. Jake and Ajax have the limits of their friendship tested when a new student, Holden Marks, arrives at West High School from Berkeley, California. Jake immediately befriends Holden, but complications arise with Dora's infatuation (what else could it be?), Goose's jealousy over Lucy's mutual interest and the resentment Ajax feels because his best friend seems pre-occupied with the lifestyle and subtle influence discovered in the charismatic, California Kid.Now Jake must juggle the new challenges and obstacles facing family, friend and foe while struggling with life on the Sand Road. Despite the confusion, heartache and frustration of these circumstances, he still manages to solve a murder...Set in 1968-69 Iowa City, this book teaches the value of loyalty, trust and the unique bond of friendship and is suitable for ages 14 and up.
