The Land of Ararat: Or Up the Roof of the World is a travelogue written by Alexander Macdonald and first published in 1893. The book describes Macdonald's journey through Armenia, Georgia, and parts of Russia in the late 19th century. The author provides vivid descriptions of the landscapes, people, and cultures he encounters on his journey, including the rugged mountains of the Caucasus, the ancient ruins of Ani, and the bustling cities of Tiflis and Baku. Macdonald also shares his experiences with local customs, such as the traditional hospitality of Armenian and Georgian households, and his encounters with various religious groups, including the Armenian and Russian Orthodox churches, as well as Muslim and Jewish communities. The Land of Ararat is a fascinating account of a region that was relatively unknown to Western readers at the time of its publication, and provides a valuable insight into the history and culture of this part of the world. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
