In this collection of poems, memories, and stories, Lancashire actor and author Dave Dutton explores both sides of his home county: from the funny to the sad and with emphasis of the town where he was born - Atherton. The grief evoked by the Pretoria pit disaster at Christmas is counterbalanced by the hilarious poem about the stunned Lancashire couple who inadvertently gave birth to a Yorkshireman!A doomed factory chimney seems to take on a life of its own; a seaside shell evokes memories of a far away war; a family man looks back fondly at the memory of his gran; the changes in a cobbled street reflects the changes in children. This is contrasted with the rich jumble of Lancashire life and characters like Owd Thrumble and his Trombone; Billy Milk and the Cuckoo Mon; the Saturday Cowboys - and what happens when the awful Bertha and her family pay an unexpected visit during an episode of Coronation Street.Sometimes, you'll fall about laughing. Other times, you'll be choking back the tears. This is the first anthology by Dave Dutton, the author of Lanky Spoken Here and Completely Lanky. It is a book you will treasure for years to come.Oh and by the way. Did you know that according to this book, the first man in Space wasn't a Russian? It was Albert Clegg from Lancashire.Honest.
