L�������Amico Fritz, also known as Friend Fritz, is a lyric comedy in three acts written by the Italian composer Pietro Mascagni. First premiered in 1891, the opera is set in the late 19th century in a small village in Alsace-Lorraine and follows the story of Fritz, a wealthy landowner, and his unlikely love interest, Suzel, a poor peasant girl. Fritz is known for his skepticism towards love and marriage, but his views are challenged when he meets Suzel and begins to develop feelings for her. Despite their different social statuses, the two fall in love and the opera explores the challenges they face in pursuing their relationship.
