The promises of the Old Testament become increasingly explicit as the biblical story progresses.
The prophets speak of a coming King, a suffering servant, a restored people, a new covenant, resurrection, judgment and the establishment of God's righteous kingdom.
Yet the prophetic Scriptures are not always simple.
They contain symbols, visions, poetic imagery, historical judgments and future promises. Some prophecies appear to have immediate historical settings while simultaneously reaching toward a greater fulfillment.
This volume explores those passages carefully, seeking to understand them within their biblical context before considering their fulfillment in Christ and the New Testament.
The prophetic books are examined alongside the Law, the historical books and the wisdom literature, allowing recurring biblical themes to illuminate one another.
Rather than imposing a predetermined prophetic system upon Scripture, the study follows the language and patterns of the biblical text.
The result is a journey through some of Scripture's most profound questions:
