Twenty-six years ago, an Emirati college student named Nora met a handsome Kuwaiti poet and the two fell in love. But marriages in the United Arab Emirates are arranged by parents, and Nora's future was already decided.
Promised in marriage to a distant cousin, Nora marries her relative, so she won't be ostracized by her family.
Not a day goes by that Nora doesn't think of her poet and wonder if she made a mistake. Through the modern technology of social media, Nora knows how to contact her old love. She asks herself, Would he still remember me as I remember him?
This captivating novel lets readers explore the Arab world's fascinating differences, offering a clear-eyed look at a culture in transition and the collateral damage that occurs along the way.
Killing Me Once More will introduce readers of English to an Arab point of view they know too little about. At the same time, it blasts apart many stereotypes we have held much too long. We are part of a global community, and our planet teems with people who do not speak like us, do not dress like us, whose customs are very different. But when we read books written by people of different cultures, we learn we're not that different after all. - Karen Bernardo, American writer and novelist.
