An enchanting tale begins in the heart of San Francisco, where a Japanese family tends a small, beloved bookstore that has stood as a pillar of the community for generations. The Hoshino family-Kenji, Asuka, and their fifteen-year-old daughter, Koko-cherish every dusty spine, every whispered story, every loyal customer who crosses their threshold.
Since the age of ten, Koko Hoshino has spent her summers learning the rhythms of the shop: the scent of ink and cedarwood shelves, the quiet hum of readers drifting through aisles, and the soft padding of their tuxedo cat, Shiyana, who prowls like a guardian spirit. Now, after school each day, Koko runs the store with steady hands and a curious heart.
Yet the past few years have brought unsettling wonders.
Every night, when the shop grows still and the streetlights glow like lanterns in the fog, a subtle, otherworldly light slips out from the back room. Shiyana's golden eyes track its movement, as if she knows a truth Koko has not yet uncovered.
Curiosity soon outweighs caution.
One fateful evening, Koko follows the strange light-and discovers that the stories lining her shelves are not mere tales. They are gateways. Threads of forgotten history and fractured time coil within them, waiting for the right soul to awaken their power.
When a mysterious woman arrives from a distant land, carrying a black book unlike any Koko has ever seen, the boundaries between myth and reality begin to dissolve. The book hums with ancient magic, and the woman's arrival becomes the catalyst that pulls Koko into a realm where imagination breathes, legends rise, and destiny unfolds page by page.
In this fairy-tale odyssey of heritage, courage, and the wild magic of storytelling, Koko Hoshino will soon discover that the worlds hidden within books are not only alive-they have been waiting for her.
