Knock At A Venture is a novel written by Eden Phillpotts. The story is set in Dartmoor, a rugged and wild area in the southwest of England. The protagonist, a young man named Paul, inherits a small farm from his grandfather and decides to move there from London. However, he soon discovers that life on the farm is not as idyllic as he had imagined. The farm is in a state of disrepair, and Paul struggles to make ends meet. He also has to deal with the hostility of his neighbors, who are suspicious of outsiders. One day, Paul discovers a mysterious woman named Elsie hiding in his barn. Elsie is on the run from her abusive husband, and Paul takes pity on her and offers her shelter. As they spend time together, Paul and Elsie develop a deep connection, and Paul begins to see the beauty of Dartmoor through her eyes. However, their happiness is short-lived as Elsie's husband tracks her down and confronts Paul. A violent confrontation ensues, and Paul is forced to defend himself and Elsie. In the end, Paul and Elsie are able to start a new life together, but not before facing the harsh realities of life in Dartmoor. Knock At A Venture is a gripping tale of love, courage, and survival in a harsh and unforgiving environment. Phillpotts' vivid descriptions of Dartmoor bring the landscape to life, and his characters are complex and relatable. This book is a must-read for anyone who enjoys stories of adventure, romance, and the triumph of the human spirit. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
