They were eking out a living as sharecroppers like so many families of that time. Their hard circumstances produced highly self-reliant tillers of the land, toughened by dawn-to-dark, back-breaking labor. - ABOUT THE AUTHOR: A Leave It to Beaver era kid from up north, near the Oklahoma border, Glenda Simpson grew up with her younger sister and her parents who thought life should be one long adventure. She is a news junky and likes to be well informed on current affairs. She attended Abilene Christian College before marrying and becoming a mother of two children. Her favorite author is James Michener, who introduced the world to her in full color. Her novel, Cheatiebo, the Folklorist, is her top bucket list item and possibly her swan song performance.
