The novel continues the adventures of young King Arthur and his loyal dog, Cabal, as Britain experiences the full brunt of the Saxon invasion. The novel focuses on a great siege at an Iron-age hill-fort, which in the novel is called The Barren Down. The outcome of this battle will determine whether the Saxons shall triumph and thus take complete control over the island of Britain; or whether the British forces will be able to withstand the Saxon advances and ultimately repel them.
