The story known as Khamba Thoibi is according to the people of Manipur, the cultural epic of the land. The original storytellers of KhambaThoibi is unknown. Its mythology saysthe events were the creation of Thangjingthe ruling deity of Moirang. The Characters are believed to be basedon actual people who lived about 500 to600 years ago. The epic unfolds in the agebefore the advent of Vaishnavism inthe kingdom of Manipur and amongthe Meitei in Manipur. The Pena Khongbaand troubadours repeatedly refer tothe indigenous deity THangjing as the author.
