KAYLA WAYMAN, JUNIOR TIME TRAVELER: LOST IN THE STREAM
Time travel to Victorian era London, the Golden Age of Hollywood, and a Tokyo lab a whole millennium into the future might sound like a fairy tale life. But time traveling teen Kayla Wayman discovers that when the time stream holds her fate in its finicky grasp, it feels more like a nightmare.
Wanting desperately to prove to her mom that she's grown up, she breaks the rules and time jumps alone. But a simple misstep throws her miles and decades away from her intended destination. Now she's tumbling from city to city, through different time periods, directionless and afraid. Kayla must learn to master time and believe in herself, or she may never find her way home.
This first collaborative novel from the makers of Story Sprouts is a tale of big adventure, second chances, and the power of a family's love. Included in this volume are valuable extras for young writers and classroom discussions.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Can you imagine writing a book with your entire class? That's what the authors of this book did. And they did it in just one day!
Armed with a two-page summary of a setting (the time and place where part of the story happens) and a character illustration of Kayla Wayman, along with some information about what kind of person she is, the authors set about writing their scenes. Then each author drew from his or her own personal experience and writing style to send Kayla on the adventure of a lifetime.
The editors then collected each chapter and spent months revising and editing them to weave them into one single, cohesive book, making sure the authors' story ideas came through in the chapters they wrote. The editors also wrote the novel's key scenes (the big plot twists, like the Time Key thief and the picnic with Grandma) and wove them into the plotline to create a better story flow. Finally, with the help of a talented publishing team, which includes a character illustrator, book cover designer, copy editor and typesetter, they crafted the book you now hold in your hands.
Kayla Wayman, Teen Time Traveler: Lost in the Stream, is the first collaborative novel of its kind, and we, the Children's Book Writers of Los Angeles (CBW-LA) are very proud of this achievement. This novel speaks to our group's purpose to educate, inspire, and empower writers to share their voices with the world. We are committed to the belief that every voice matters, regardless of age, nationality, ethnicity, religion or gender. To learn more about our programs and services, visit www.cbw-la.org.
