The Kachins: Their Customs and Traditions is a book written by Ola Hanson in 1913. The book provides a detailed account of the Kachin people, who are an ethnic group living in the northern region of Myanmar and the southern part of China's Yunnan province. The author, who was a Swedish missionary, spent several years living among the Kachin people and studying their culture and way of life. The book covers a wide range of topics related to the Kachin people, including their history, social structure, religion, and customs. It also provides a detailed description of their daily life, including their agriculture, hunting practices, and traditional crafts. The author also explores the Kachin's traditional dress, music, and dance, as well as their beliefs and rituals related to death and the afterlife. One of the most interesting aspects of the book is the author's discussion of the Kachin's unique system of governance, which is based on a series of chieftainships. The author also describes the Kachin's relationship with neighboring ethnic groups and the impact of colonialism on their way of life. Overall, The Kachins: Their Customs and Traditions is a fascinating and comprehensive study of a little-known ethnic group. It provides valuable insights into their culture and way of life, and is an important resource for anyone interested in the history and anthropology of Southeast Asia. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
