She left her country when Hitler invaded it and went to Switzerland, from which country she later came to the United States. Two days after her arrival in New York she joined the Manhattan Chess Club and in doing so found a place where she at once felt at home. She has since won prizes in several women's championship tournaments.
John and the Chess Men is Miss Weissenstein's second book for children. It was published in 1952.
