His sister Laura watches the room grow tense; his nephew starts building tunnels and asking about cracks before saying hello.
When Simon decides to fix the flaw, he widens it himself.
The structure remains sound. The damage is subtler than that.
Just Not is a restrained, psychologically precise novel about control, grief, and the danger of mistaking vigilance for safety. Set almost entirely within a single domestic space, it traces how uncertainty, once given a number, can quietly reorganise a life.
