Excerpt: ... personality or dignity, no one can doubt but that in various practical ways--and not the least the moneys given to Diocesan Missions from the Cathedral amounting to $18,000 in nine years, and the moneys given toward the purchase of the Bishop's House, and to the payment of the interest with the assumption of the principal of the mortgage--the Cathedral organization has helped the Diocesan work. We have waited patiently, worshipping at every inconvenience and hindrance of unattractiveness for all these years, till the works were established, the worship settled and the congregation gathered; till times were better, till the Cathedral was recognized, till the Diocese was stronger, and now we come to ask your help not for ourselves but for the glory of God, for your strengthening and. upbuilding, for putting the Church in this Diocese representatively before men in the capital of this great State, in an attitude not merely of strength in parochial organization; but of strength in visible unity, in dignity and decency as the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Albany. I know your demands and needs and claims each in his own sphere. But for three years running let us realize that we are not so many Hectors or so many laymen of so many Parishes, but that we are a recognized ecclesiastical unit, put together iu the providence of God as a separate part of the great household of faith in that oldest complete ecclesiastical entity--a Diocese, a Bishop, Clergy and laity.
