Excerpt: Ragnar Klavan (born 30 October 1985 in Viljandi, Estonia) is a Estonian footballer who plays for German Fussball-Bundesliga club FC Augsburg and for the Estonian national team. He plays the position of left-footed defender. Klavan made his first-team debut for FC Elva at the age of 15 in 2001. A year later he joined to JK Viljandi Tulevik. After two seasons he moved to FC Flora Tallinn in 2003. On 31 August 2004, Klavan signed for Valerenga IF on a three-month loan from Flora Tallinn. Three months later Flora Tallinn extended his loan with Valerenga IF until 30 November 2005. He stayed for only two league games. On 4 August 2005, he signed a three-year contract with Dutch Eredivisie club Heracles Almelo. Five days later, Klavan played his first game for Heracles Almelo against RKSV DCG. He scored his first Eredivisie goal on 24 August 2007, in the 76th minute in a 2-1 loss against his national teammate Andres Oper's club Roda JC. On 29 December 2007, Klavan extended his contract with Heracles Almelo until 30 June 2008. On 27 January 2009, he went on a loan to AZ, having previously signed a permanent summer move to the Alkmaar club. The Estonian national player signed a contract for four years. On 29 September 2009, he became the first Estonian to play in UEFA Champions League group stage as he came on as a substitute in a 1-1 draw against Standard Liege. On 2 July 2012, he joined German top division side Augsburg on a two-year contract. For Estonia, Klavan is capped 83 times, scoring two goals. He made his national team debut on 3 July 2003 against Lithuania in Baltic Cup. He scored his first goal on 31 May 2006 against New Zealand in a friendly match. Klavan played his 50th game for Estonia national team on 11 October 2008, against Spain in a 2010 FIFA World Cup qualification.
