JJ's Audition Adventure, authored by Javier Vázquez Jr., is a picture book for kids K-3 who have that early spark for acting. Illustrated by storyboard artist and animator Ekaterina Soyuznova, the story follows a young boy named JJ who sees his uncle on a TV show and decides he wants to try acting for himself. With the help of his uncle, he learns the most important elements of making a self-tape audition video, including lighting, lines, backdrops, and more. Most importantly, JJ learns how to work hard, bounce back from disappointment, and courageously explore new things.
This story is not only entertaining but informative as well. Following JJ's example, young readers and parents will learn how to make a self-tape audition of their own, and they'll have access to a full glossary of must-know acting terms for kids to thrive in the industry. In addition, the book prepares kids for the inevitable experience of rejection and equips them to recenter on the joy of getting to do what they love.
Javier Vázquez is a professional actor with a background in education who has had over two dozen speaking roles on TV and film, plus countless appearances in commercials and print work. Through the book, he aims to give kids an uncle figure to guide them through an industry that both kids and parents are often unprepared for. Overall, kids and parents will feel empowered to explore and develop courage for trying new things.
