Jett is no frozen victim: she's a fighter, a detective, and when it counts the most, a trailblazer... -J.R. Potter, award-winning author of Thomas Creeper and the Gloomsbury Secret
Some twelve-year-old kids keep diaries. Jett Jamison keeps tally marks on a bathroom wall to track every time her world gets too loud to bear.
She also keeps a shoebox stuffed with one hundred and thirty-three to-do lists she believes will make life much better. Meanwhile, she survives by disappearing into the one place that never fails her: the library. It is grand, quiet, and predictable...until a book she desperately wants to read vanishes from the shelves, and nobody seems to know why.
When the disappearance starts looking less like a mistake and more like a mysterious clue to something bigger, Jett rallies her friends and they realize someone wants the book banned. The closer they get to the truth, the more they understand that what's happening in their town is not just occurring on library shelves. Jett's fight against one banned book turns into a battle to reclaim justice for every story that's been silenced and every voice that's been stifled. As the investigation deepens, her questions force her to face off with the voices in her head and consider a secret she's never dared to tell a single person. Jett has been making lists her whole life, but some things cannot be checked off. They have to be faced.
Is Jett brave enough to stop keeping score and finally speak her truth? Honest storytelling tempered with humor and hope make for an engaging middle-grade novel about the power of friendship in navigating trauma and grief.
