By birth John would always be known as the son of Zebedee, the younger brother of James. His name was the most common of all names at the time. Besides Jesus, probably only his mother saw the potential and yearning that lay beneath that wind-tossed hair, the open blisters, the youthful skin, the developing muscles, the questioning eyes, the loving heart, and the ever-present smell of fish.

Jesus chose John to take part in a supreme test that would affect every person on Earth for all time.

Can a questioning youth in only three short years be filled day after day with enough Perfect Love so that he can live a life that will carry him through the fears and yearnings of youth? Can it inspire him to learn and love and grow into the Christian apostle who is capable of seeing and recording for all mankind the revelations of God? Can this brief earthly friendship-races on the beach, quiet walks at sunset, the sharing of tears and laughter-be the link that forever ties the Son of God and sinful man in a personal relationship with everlasting cords of love?

Let's look at that friendship as seen only through the eyes of John, the beloved disciple...
