The book is part of a larger collection known as the Jataka tales, which are ancient Buddhist texts that tell stories of the Buddha's past lives. This particular volume includes the commentary of Buddhaghosa, a fifth-century Buddhist scholar who added his own interpretations and explanations to the original stories. The book is divided into chapters, each one containing a different tale of the Buddha's previous life. The stories are meant to teach moral lessons and provide insight into Buddhist teachings and beliefs. They cover a wide range of topics, including love, compassion, generosity, and wisdom. The tales are told in a simple and straightforward manner, making them accessible to readers of all ages and backgrounds. Overall, The Jataka V3: Together With Its Commentary, Being Tales Of The Anterior Births Of Gotama Buddha (1883) is a valuable resource for those interested in Buddhism, as well as those who enjoy reading ancient folklore and mythology. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
