IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN ME is a semi-autobiographical romance novel starting in the 1970s centered around a church with an awesome youth group. Dave's a socially awkward, shy, and backwards teenager who finds it incredibly hard to talk to people, especially girls. Teenagers in his youth group slowly help with his inward inabilities.
Dave's love for basketball is trumped by only one thing...his interest and infatuation with Debbie, who is very beautiful, outgoing and social. His best friend, Randy has the same intentions. Dave and Randy hunt, scuba dive, and work together. Randy has age experience on his side and is very persistent.
The love of Dave's life, Debbie, marries his best friend after a twisted love triangle leaves him spiraling out of control with life, church, and God. Only a robbery and homicide can give Dave another chance with Debbie, but he was lost. Will he reunite with his only love?
Haunted by Randy's death leaving a widowed wife and two young children, Randy visits Dave in dreams mocking him by marrying Debbie first. In a final showdown with the deceased Randy, who tells us all to be ready for the Lord's second coming, the ending will surprise you!
