The Isles Of Shoals Hymn Book And Candle Light Service is a book published in 1908 by the Isles Of Shoals Association. The book contains a collection of hymns and prayers that were used during the annual Candle Light Service held on the Isles of Shoals, a group of small islands off the coast of New Hampshire and Maine. The Candle Light Service was a tradition that began in the late 1800s and continued into the early 1900s. It was a religious service held on the islands, where participants would light candles and sing hymns as they walked along the shorelines. The service was meant to inspire a sense of community and spirituality among the residents of the islands. The hymns and prayers in the book are a mix of traditional Christian hymns and original compositions written specifically for the Candle Light Service. The book also includes a brief history of the Isles of Shoals and the Candle Light Service, as well as instructions for conducting the service.Overall, the Isles Of Shoals Hymn Book And Candle Light Service provides a unique glimpse into a little-known religious tradition that was once an important part of life on the Isles of Shoals. It is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history of religious practices in New England. This scarce antiquarian book is a facsimile reprint of the old original and may contain some imperfections such as library marks and notations.
