Eight-year-old Ellie Gonzalez, and her best friend Isaac Hunter, are bullied for their intelligence and unwillingness to conform to what they do not believe in. Ellie and Isaac do everything together, until Ellie moves schools. She does not like the idea of not having any control over her life and constantly being told what to do because of her age. Ellie's curiosity gets her mixed up in gangs, drugs, and violence-something no child should undergo. Six years pass and Ellie is a teenager. Much has changed, even Ellie. She is used to starting over-new friends, new home, new neighborhood, new start. Ellie thinks she has left the troubles of her childhood behind, however, they have come full-circle, her red string of Fate tugging at her Soul reminding her of everything she tried to forget.
