Ah, to be 18 again! Looking forward to your gap year, your first time away from home on your own. The excitement of exploring the Far East with its amazing colours and culture, eating cuisine in its authentic surroundings, serenaded by the sounds and inhaling the exotic odours of the Orient. Well, James Christmas has just blown it! His parents less than pleased with his miserable 'A' Level results, the bank of Mum and Dad has now frozen his account, and he's not going anywhere. At the same time his parents have decided to put his Nan into sheltered accommodation. James sees an escape route away from his parents' demands that he repeat his two years at college, and moves in with his grandmother, kyboshing his parents' plans, much to their disgust. What is the secret of this 'Janine' who Nan interviews for her newsletter? And why won't Nan's friend Brenda open up about a secret which clearly bothers her? Between James and his grandmother, they uncover a grisly secret that connects the two women, an act so vile that her family disowned one of them. And to the other, it broke her heart.
