Whether these poems were written by the farmer as he tends his crops, or the city dweller writing sonnets to the honking of rush hour traffic, the heartbeat of a poet is the same. As president of Illinois State Poetry Society, I've had the advantage of meeting several of these poets, and read the works of some, but the real joy for me was getting to know the poets I have yet to meet - right here inside this book.
