In this very special collection of Notes and Sketches, the author and artist Trudy Myrrh Reagan takes us on a journey moving In and Out of Time to which the title indicates. The book does not follow a single, continuous line of events and ideas. In the manner of perusing a notebook and sketchbook contained in one volume, we follow many paths through a random variety of writings and drawings in which Important and extraordinary themes emerge in thought-provoking ways, both poignant and pleasurable. We are cast into the realm of memory together with the all-too-present challenges of the body, mind, and spirit - as we look into the glaring face of mortality in contrast to a full and wondrous life well lived.
As an observant participant, Myrrh explores the time she spent as a child and adult with her poet mother and geologist father from the 1930s to the 90s. She also recounts and reflects on the life she shared with her physicist husband Daryl from college into their later years together. Myrrh wrote an extensive portrayal of Daryl's descent into Alzheimer's found at the end of the book. Taking in the many stories she tells us through her Notes and Sketches, we are bound to feel the better for it - in astonishment and admiration for all that she provides in this remarkable book.
