Zelmira is a melodramma serio in two acts by Gioachino Rossini to an Italian libretto by Andrea Leone Tottola, based on the play 'Zelmire' by Dormont de Belloy. This edition presents the complete libretto in its original Italian. Rossini's opera, premiered in Naples in 1822, showcases his mastery of vocal writing and dramatic pacing. The opera tells a tale of love, betrayal, and eventual redemption set against a backdrop of ancient Lesbos. Zelmira, the daughter of King Ilo, bravely defends her father and her homeland.
