Ma soprattutto è il racconto di quello che non si vede quando passa un'ambulanza.
Ci sono le persone che incontri per pochi minuti e quelle che rimangono dentro di te per anni. Ci sono gli anziani soli, i familiari preoccupati, le chiamate che sembrano semplici e quelle che cambiano improvvisamente. Ci sono le risate in sede, le discussioni, la stanchezza, gli errori, la paura e la forza di una squadra.
E poi c'è la parte più importante: capire perché continui a farlo.
Perché fare il volontario non significa essere un eroe. Non significa avere sempre la risposta giusta e non significa salvare tutti.
Significa imparare.
Significa ascoltare.
Significa sapere quando chiedere aiuto.
Significa rispettare la persona che hai davanti.
E, qualche volta, significa semplicemente arrivare quando qualcuno sta aspettando.
Questo libro è per chi è già volontario, per chi lo è stato e per chi sta pensando di iniziare. Per chi vuole sapere cosa c'è davvero dietro una divisa e dietro quelle porte che si chiudono prima di partire.
Perché non sempre puoi cambiare il finale di una storia.
Ma puoi esserci mentre quella storia sta succedendo.
E a volte, per qualcuno, può significare tutto.
