Bernardino Maria Abate e affronta in modo sistematico il ministero della santificazione, cuore della missione della Chiesa. Dopo aver approfondito nei precedenti volumi la natura della Teologia Pastorale, i suoi fondamenti e il ministero della predicazione questa nuova opera è dedicata alla liturgia, luogo privilegiato nel quale Cristo continua ad operare la salvezza attraverso il culto divino e l'amministrazione dei sacramenti.
L'opera offre una trattazione completa dei sacramenti, illustrandone il fondamento teologico, gli elementi costitutivi, gli effetti, i criteri di amministrazione e gli orientamenti pastorali per affrontare le principali sfide del nostro tempo. Ampio spazio è dedicato al Battesimo, alla Confermazione, all'Eucaristia, alla Penitenza, all'Unzione degli Infermi, all'Ordine e al Matrimonio, con particolare attenzione alle problematiche pastorali contemporanee, quali la crisi della pratica sacramentale, la secolarizzazione, la perdita del senso del sacro, la crisi della famiglia e la denatalità . Il volume si completa con un'approfondita riflessione sui sacramentali, sulla pietà popolare e sul fine proprio della Pastorale Liturgica, evidenziandone il ruolo nella santificazione del Popolo di Dio.
