Gerusalemme Liberata is an epic poem by Torquato Tasso, first published in 1581. It tells a largely fictionalized version of the First Crusade's siege of Jerusalem in 1099. The poem is written in ottava rima and comprises twenty cantos. Tasso began work on the poem in his youth and completed it in his mid-thirties. Initially, the work was titled Il Goffredo.
Gerusalemme Liberata is considered one of the most important works of Italian literature.
